Stage 19 - 2012 Tour de France

Stage 19 of this year's Tour de France finished as many expected. Bradley Wiggins confirmed his GC dominance and Chris Froome made it a 1, 2 finish for Sky. Wiggins finished the 58.3 km individual time trial in 1:04'13" whilst Froome finished 1'16" slower than his Sky teammate and fellow British citizen. Speculation over whether Froome could've won this years Tour if he had not been riding for Wiggins also ended last night, as Wiggins asserted the fact that he was the strongest, and fastest Tour rider this year. The stage that brought Cadel a lifelong dream last year brought another wave of disappointment this year. The fighting Australian doesn't seem to be at his strongest, whether that is because of illness or other factors. He lost a further 5'54" on yellow clad Wiggins and fell to 7th place in GC. The past few stages in the Pyrennes and the individual time trial have been stages to forget for last years winner. Tejay Van Garderen sealed his place at top of the Best Young Rider classification, finishing in 7th place, 2'34" behind the winner. The young American proved too strong for his BMC team leader Cadel Evans in the mountain stages, and even overtook the Australian on the time trial, despite starting 3 minutes behind the Australian. There seems to be a bright future for Van Garderen and his Grand Tour endeavours. We now look forward to the final stage of the years Tour, and the celebrations from Team Sky as they cruise the Champs-Élysées. The sprinters will be looking for a final chance at victory with Mark Cavendish the stage 20 favourite. Peter Sagan will be looking to show why he wears the green jersey, and Matt Goss will try to get Orica-Greenedge, and Australia their first stage win.
